Glazing Options

The choice of glazing for your artwork can have an important impact on how it appears, now and into the future. Our design staff will be happy to make glazing reccomendations for you.

UV-Rays

UV-rays cause deterioration to the pigments in artwork over time. The process can be quite rapid with certain dyes. Thus UV-filtering glazing is required for expensive for non-replaceable artwork that owner intends to preserve. Even if the piece will not be placed in direct sun or florescent light UV-filtering should be strongly considered, as the indirect light, especially in lightly colored rooms can be almost as damaging.

Glare

Many customers are also concerned about how glare affects the appearance of a framed piece. Things to be considered are how the piece is to be lit and the darkness of the image. Darker images tend to cast more noticeable reflections. Reduced Glare Glasses (see below) are finely etched on one side to diffuse the glare. Some people feel that the etched surface makes the image more hazy looking. Museum Glass almost completely eliminates the glare and has a very high UV-filter. Museum Glass is, therefore, an excellent choice to both preserve valuable pieces while allowing for optimal viewing.

Plexiglas

Bresler Eitel uses only high-quality picture framing grade plexiglas, which will not warp or distort viewing. Plexiglas is the best choice when framing particularily large pieces, as it is light weight and as there is no risk of it breaking. Plexi OP-3 combines these advantages with UV-Filtering. One should consider OP-3 for valuable pieces because it eliminates both damage that will occur from UV-rays and the risk of damage that may occur from the glass breaking.
